When RB & Jenny Fitch first created The Fearrington House Inn, they modeled it after the warmth and grace of an English country inn. Naturally, Afternoon Tea was part of the allure—an elegant pause in the day to sip, savor, and unwind.
In those early years, tea looked a little different than it does today. Guests would gather in the Garden House for a buffet-style spread, filling their plates with savories and sweets before enjoying them among the blooms. It was charming, informal, and perfectly in keeping with the Fitchs’ vision of creating a retreat where European traditions met Southern hospitality.
As the tradition grew, so did our desire to share it. Years ago, we reimagined Afternoon Tea into the refined service we know today—complete with tiered trays, seasonal menus, and the kind of thoughtful hospitality that makes time stand still. By opening it to the public, Afternoon Tea became not just a perk of staying at the Inn, but a destination in itself.
Now, it’s the perfect outing for a girls’ trip, a mother daughter outing, a celebratory gathering, or simply an afternoon of indulgence. Start with tea in the Fearrington House, then stroll through the gardens, wander our shops, or enjoy the village at your own pace. It’s a ritual that captures the essence of Fearrington: tradition, elegance, and a touch of whimsy.
✨ Pro tip: Add a glass of champagne to your tea to make it even more festive.
And a tip from us: the holidays are fast approaching and our busiest time for Afternoon Tea. Reservations fill up quickly, so we recommend booking well in advance to secure your spot.
Come for tea, stay for the experience—because at Fearrington, tradition is always in season.
