Keebe Fitch

MANAGER & EVENTS COORDINATOR

Keebe first opened McIntyre’s in 1989. Daughter of R.B. and Jenny Fitch, Fearrington’s creators, Keebe has been a part of the Fearrington family business since the early 1980s. When R.B. felt that an independent bookstore would be an ideal addition to Fearrington’s growing Village Center, he turned to Keebe to put it all together. In addition to earning a BA in History from UNC, she also received an MBA from UNC’s Kenan-Flagler Business School in 2003.

Pete Mock

BOOK BUYER & MYSTERY GURU

Pete calls them as he reads them. He came to McIntyre’s Books in 1995 and has developed a reputation for recommending lesser-known mystery authors and often-missed authors from other genres. Pete reads 4-5 books each week to ensure the mystery section has classics, new novels and books you won’t find anywhere else! He’s never short on opinions but is willing to back up what he has to say. Customers come in and call regularly to check on what he’s reading and make plans accordingly!

Johanna Albrect

CHILDREN'S BOOK BUYER

Johanna has been a member of the McIntyre‘s team since the first Whirlikids BookFest in 2018. For over 7 years she has been a bookseller and storytime leader in the Triangle area. She loves picture books with special details in the art and quirky stories that come alive when they are shared with little listeners. For other age groups her favorite books to read and recommend are magical chapter books, intimate stories in contemporary young adult literature, and unique literary fiction with complex female voices. Johanna has also worked as a nanny for several years and her storytime attendees will know her as Johanna Banana!

ABOUT THE PRIZE

The Beltie Mystery Prize was founded in 2018 by Pete Mock to honor the year’s best work in mystery, thriller, noir, procedural, or true crime writing. Serving as the prize’s sole judge, Mock selects a longlist each fall and announces the winner the following year. The award has highlighted both acclaimed and emerging authors, with past winners including Michael Bennett's Better the Blood, Joey Hartstone's The Local, and S.A. Cosby's Razorblade Tears. Now in its ninth year, the Beltie continues to celebrate outstanding storytelling and craftsmanship in mystery fiction.
